(Brooklyn, NY): OpenGround and Galerie Scherer8 proudly present Williamsburg Wedding, an organically initiated international exchange between artists in Brooklyn and Berlin. On March 5th, Open Ground has the pleasure of introducing seven German artists to New York City with a group exhibition at Open Ground in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In turn on April 1st, Galerie Scherer8 and the storefronts on Schererstra?e in Wedding, Berlin, will host site-specific installations and artwork from 23 artists in the Open Ground collective.

Just as Williamsburg, Brooklyn grew into a cultural center fueled by the raw energy of the artists who settled here, Wedding, Berlin, is similarly home to a vibrant artist community with artist-initiated galleries and neighborhood projects which promote increased cultural activity. Like Williamsburg, the West Berlin neighborhood of Wedding has an industrial past and is home to a diverse mix of immigrants, working people, and artists. Like Open Ground in Williamsburg, Galerie Scherer8 in Wedding was founded by artists to provide a space for themselves and their peers to show their work. Over the past two and a half years, Galerie Scherer8 has contributed to the neighborhood's development as a cultural center that hosts diverse events (veranstaltungen) including art exhibitions, concerts, readings, and film screenings that bring the community together.

Curated by Fridey Mickel, Williamsburg Wedding features a group of emerging and pro-active artists who live within a five-block radius in Wedding, Berlin and have been involved in organizing events at Galerie Scherer8.

Daniela Bustamante is an Ecuadorian figurative painter who studied art in London. Her work features photo-realistic portraiture with abstract, patterned backgrounds in vibrant hues. She lives between Berlin and Quito, Ecuador, with her four-year old daughter and has shown in solo and group exhibitions in Berlin, London, and Quito.
Esther Nolte and Fridey Mickel are a German-American collaborative team and have worked together as 'In House Productions' for the past two years. They have backgrounds in theater design and work in film, conceptual installation (lighting and projection), sculpture, and sewing. They live together in Berlin and their work has been shown in Berlin, Australia, and New York.
Hotch is a filmmaker, abstract and figurative painter, and 3-D animator from Berlin. He is the founder and one of the co-directors of Galerie Scherer8.
Ancz É. Kokowski is a painter who is experienced in abstract and figurative painting. For this exhibition she choose her newest figurative work, a series of ten portraits of a German gallerist.
She founded, together with Pete Meyer, the Kunstoffice in Berlin 2001, a gallery for contemporary art and a meeting point for artists and interested people.
Christian Grosskopf is a German artist from Berlin who creates work in figurative and landscape painting and works on paper inspired by early American animation.
Carola Goellner is a photo realistic artist who works in painting, drawing and storyline illustration on paper. Christian and Carola live together with their two children in Wedding and have shown together and separately all over the world.

Buoyed by the independent spirit of their neighborhoods, this is a chance to share ideas between communities, and an opportunity to discover where we overlap. Both groups of artists look forward to an extended dialogue with their peers abroad, encouraging on-going relationships, and showing artwork in a context of international understanding.

The artists sincerely thank the sponsorship provided by the following generous businesses:
